A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY AND WHAT WE DO
The Arrowtarian Senior Citizens Society owns and operates the Rotary Villa complex in Nakusp, British Columbia. Our non-profit society was formed in 1967 and opened Phase I in 1971.
Since then, we have added four more Phases of low cost and affordable housing for independent residents 55 and over, of low and moderate income. We currently have 52 rental apartments. |
In 1965, a small group of Rotarians realized that there was a need for affordable seniors housing in Nakusp, and so created the Arrowtarian Senior Citizens Society: "Arrow" for the Arrow Lakes and, "rowtarian" for the Rotary Club. The society was incorporated in 1967.
In the 50 years since, the Arrowtarian Society has constructed 52 units of housing in five phases. The first three were built in conjunction with BC Housing. The society had to purchase the land and, through sheer determination, and 900 hours of volunteer work, along with financial support from individuals, societies and businesses in the community, finished eleven units of Phase I in 1971. This was followed by Phase II in 1978 with 8-units, and Phase III in 1982 with 10-units. In 2009 Phase IV was built with 14-units. The last project was Phase V, completed in 2021 with 9-units. |
